INITIATION REVALIDA OF SAN LAZARO HOSPITAL
The San Lazaro Hospital (SLH) is currently a Special National Hospital Medical Center for Infectious Diseases and Tropical Medicine with a National Reference Laboratory for HIV, AIDs and other STIs. It provides health care services, particularly to the underprivileged who are afflicted with infectious diseases. Goal for this year is to become a National Specialty Center with Expanded Health and Diagnostic Services, Training, and Research Capabilities for Infectious Disease and Tropical Medicine (IDTM) at par with global standards.
And the strategic position by 2028 is to become an Internationally Recognized National Specialty Center with Expanded Health and Diagnostic Services, Training, and Research Capabilities for IDTM enabling a network of regional Emerging and re-emerging Infectious Diseases (EREIDs) and trained Certified rHIVda Confirmatory Laboratories (CRCLs).
In accordance with this, the Institute for Solidarity in Asia (ISA) through Public Revalida has granted the SLH “Initiated Status” as the first step in the governance pathway for the Performance Governance System (PGS) last October 2023. The SLH has made a bold commitment to expand investment in health systems during the recovery period and to strengthen resilience against future health threats.
The distinctive nature of SLH medical cases has established IDTM management criteria. SLH will employ training and research as a mechanism for disseminating knowledge gained from patient experience, which will have an impact on reducing IDTM mortality and morbidity rates.
SLH's long-term goal is to guarantee that its services have an impact on customers by providing better health outcomes, more responsive health systems, and more equitable healthcare finance.
Core roadmap includes service, training, research and linkage while the support roadmap includes safety, human capital, infrastructure and equipment, information capital and resource management. SLH aims to meet the defined deliverable by 2028 through strategy alignment, target setting, and periodic monitoring and evaluation.
Plans are underway to increase health service, training, and research capacity as a national apex hospital for IDTM. SLH will provide more specialized and detailed diagnostic and clinical services. It will also provide more advanced training services. SLH will lead novel institutional research on IDTM, which will be published in both local and international publications.
The SLH management pledged its support for all PGS-related measures to guarantee that the strategic performance commitments are met. It is with great optimism that SLH will continue to thrive in this PGS journey to realize its primary mission for the coming years by providing accessible multi-disciplinary clinical care, comprehensive training, education and research , as well as conduct advocacy on IDTM to the Filipino people.
